MIMI SALONEN

Mimi has taken everything she knows about disability, chronic illness, transracial adoption, millennial parenting, marriage and grief and found a way to make you laugh—with her. Mostly so she can sleep at night, because obviously she has anxiety too.

Mimi has used her dark humor and sharp wit to make people laugh from the hospital bed to the school bus line, from the family courtroom, to her dad’s hospice room. Since stepping on the stage as a professional comedian her career has been jet fueled. After just a month of taking the stage she was asked to be part of the nationally recognized Moms Unhinged Comedy Group. Recently she also began prouding comedy shows for Next Stop Comedy, a production company bringing professional comics to over 100 locations in 21 states. From the beginning, Mimi has been garnishing rave reviews like “she’s really funny” and her favorite “I think she has what it takes.”

About Mimi

In 2020—amidst the pandemic—Mimi created the podcast More Mimi, which has a singular fantastic Apple review from her mother-in-law. She is a social media wiz who has had numerous aunts ask her how to make a post on Instagram. She is also the baby of the family. Though not technically a credential, she wanted to mention it to make you all instantly understand that she typically gets what she wants, and she wants you to laugh at all the absurdities of life.

This is the opportunity to catch the next big thing in comedy career, way way way before she’s really that big, she’s actually technically a proportionate dwarf. What’s in it for you: It's like buying Van Gogh's first work of art or attending Taylor Swift's first concert before anyone knew she would take over the world. There's something magical about being part of someone’s come up story and though she doesn’t have much hope for getting over five feet tall, she’s definitely on a watch list somewhere.

When Mimi is not entertaining from the stage, you can find her at the PTA meeting or sending an email that she’ll definitely be there next time, paddle boarding the lake while staring at the sunset learning to feel her feels, practicing her karaoke from her basement in case one day it really comes in handy, or blowing up the group chat with a hot take on room temp ham—who wouldn’t want that message interrupting their work day.

I was never the smartest kid in the room but I was definitely the sickest, illest kid– no cool street cred here –I’m talking butt hanging out of my hospital gown level sick. During this presentation, attendees will experience a potent blend of humor, showcasing laughter's ability to overcome pain, my pain to be specific. They'll leave with 5 key take aways into the art of finding humor in setbacks, even the most dire ones—a tactic employed by both the sharpest minds and my own– to turn supposed disasters into fun. This breakout session will leave attendees laughing – a true gift to find inside of a serious conference.

At the age of 9 I was hospitalized for 3 months which turned into the next 25 years being hospitalized 2 times a year for at least 2 weeks at a time. During our interview, I’ll talk about how freaking inspirational I am. It will be so much fun to hear about how many many crosses I’ve had to bear. Your audience will immediately pit our sad stories against each other and I might actually lose, but hey, that’s what Jesus would do too. Our interview will leave the audience ready to get curious about how their own pain might actually be a little bit funny too.
